One of the first uses of the wind up phonograph was in dolls. Miniature wind
up machines were placed into dolls so that they could speak.
Most
of talking doll machines used a wind up mechanism that spun a cylinder disk
usually made of wax or celluloid, while on some models the child actually had to
spin the record themselves at a constant speed. Very hard to do at any age!
The record needles were very similar to the traditional stand up home models
that either used needles made of steel or steel with a sapphire tip.
If your talking doll is in need of repair we can service it for you. If you
do not wish to
remove the mechanism yourself, we can do that as well. With her masters degree
in doll making, Sue Phillips can also tend to all your doll needs as well.

Hendren doll (Dolly Reckord).
